Champange is our newest “Blonde” variety. It has a medium yellow
green color that looks great for processor markets. This variety is Corky Root
resistant, medium tolerance to Tip-Burn, and improved tolerance to Fringe
Burn. Champagne exhibits a large frame with a 12” to 14” plant height and has
a medium to heavy weight at harvest. Champagne has an extremely smooth
midrib and wide leaf petiole with a straight tapered butt shape, making for an
impressive pack at harvest. This variety has a thicker leaf texture when
compared to other blonde romaine varieties. Champagne also has excellent
hold ability at past optimum maturity, which would help in Processor salad
market.
